Finding the Next Kimbo Slice
by: EKC

While working the Kimbo Slice vs Tank Abbott fight for EliteXC, we kept hearing about this guy called DADA. People were saying he was essentially the next Kimbo. Esther even got a picture of him at the fight, sort of. Well, it turns out, some documentary filmmakers going by the moniker Rakontur, decided to follow him around and show the world what backyard MMA in Florida is really like. I have to admit, I was pretty jealous when I saw this because I wish I was shooting a project like that right now. Hopefully, we will get in touch with these guys or Dada himself to get more info on Dawg Fight.

At first i thought it was going to be a spoof on one of those Tapout movies.

My take on it: Wouldn’t this be considered illegal? I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I’ve never got in a fight on the street or anything, but seriously. For these clowns to try and use the excuse that the participants don’t have jobs and need to feed their families as a means to justify having illegal fights in his mom’s backyard as well perpetrate this as away of helping people out and trying to fulfill their “hopes, dreams, and aspirations” seems to be pretty disingenuous. It seems like just another Felony Fights/Toughman competition where their is only one true benefactor: the knucklehead putting the vent together.

I’m not even going to try and compare these fighters to true MMA fighters, let alone this “promotion” to any legit MMA promotion. If anyone that claims to be a fan of MMA doesn’t know the obvious difference, then I wouldn’t be able to explain it any clearer than the video.

By the people in the video saying things like “half of the fighters are convicts” and “they don’t have resumes, trade skills,” it shows that these particular people are stuck in the mentality that since they are poor or come from an underprivileged background that it’s acceptable to to resort to ANY sort of action, weather it be legal or not, in order to make a living. Its the same type of mentality that got half of these guys in trouble with the law in the first place. Bottom line is that individuals like this, no matter what race or nationality they are, need to quit feeling sorry for themselves and strive to be more of a productive part of society.

Anyone aspiring to be the next Kimbo Slice obviously doesn’t have high aspirations for themselves.

While the documentary is well done, the subject is barbaric, and only portrays the slowly decaying nature of human culture.

    Lorenzinho -

This is the primal core of human nature.

This predates any form of culture.

This has existed in every civilization, and will continue to exist as long as humans exist.

To think otherwise is naive. To call it decay is foolish.

  11. the medic

So these fights have certified medical personnel to care for the injured? I pity these fools when someone dies and they all go to jail.

Good luck fellas. Keep pursuing those lofty dreams. This is truly inspiring stuff.

    Felix is 100% correct.

Why can’t they just go to amateur competitions, do well, get recognized by a camp’s manager, then get signed to fight professionally. Who’s the idiot who even spawned this ridiculous backyard fighting crap? He’s going to get people seriously injured without having any medical professionals around. Look at what he said about the ribs breaking and that guy with all those cuts on his face! What if he got infected or he’s anemic and the small blood loss is extremely taxing? Blood clot anyone? This is just plain stupid, and all these fighters who think this is their only option are just as foolish.
