Guest Photographer: Dean Marchand

We’d like to introduce Dean Marchand, friend of the site and now contributor.  Dean also shot the Strikeforce: Nashville press event in Los Angeles and we wanted to share his filmic handiwork with you.  I’ll have him log back in and explain which film stocks were used, but in the meantime, enjoy!

Follow Dean on twitter to discuss Japanese MMA and/or hardcore.

  • shots look great, but what gear are you using? a lot of the pics are looking grainy, i’m thinking it’s intentional.

    • I’ll have Dean respond as to what FILM he was using.

Yes, the grain is very intentional. All of these shots except the last six were shot on my Canon Rebel EOS. A film camera that I think is only a couple years younger than I am (20 years). The color photos were shot on Lomo CN 800. Really grainy and unpredictable film, but that’s what makes it fun. The black & white shots are on Fuji Neopan 1600 (beautiful grain) and Ilford HP5 400.

The last six are digital, and were shot with Canon 5D mkII. I prefer to shoot with film, personally. Not really sure why though, it’s just a lot more fun to me.
